TINGKATAN DALAM FREEMASONRY

Orang sering menyangka bahwa Freemasonry hanya terdiri atas 33 derajat tingkatan saja. Itu tidak salah ketika kita berbicara mengenai Scottish Rite Freemasonry (Scottish Rite terdiri atas Northern Jurisdiction dan Southern Jurisdiction yang masing-masingnya mempunyai tingkatan kederajatan yang berbeda-beda pula), namun tidak terlalu tepat untuk membicarakan struktur kederajatan Freemasonry secara umum.
Di dunia ini ada berbagai macam rite (saya terjemahkan sebagai RITUS, karena jika saya terjemahkan sebagai RITUAL terasa kurang pas) Freemasonry, yang masing-masing mempunyai “struktur organisasi” dan tradisi yang berbeda-beda. Secara umum bisa dibilang bahwa struktur tingkatan organisasi mereka sangat rumit.
Meski begitu harus diingat bahwa, sebagian besar Freemason di dunia tidak melanjutkan “karirnya” ke tingkatan derajat yang lebih tinggi dari derajat ketiga, Master Mason, yang secara umum dipakai hampir seluruh ritus, jurisdiksi (jurisdiction), chapter, maupun loge (lodge, loji) di seluruh dunia. Karena itulah di forum-forum diskusi Freemasonry luar negeri banyak sekali perdebatan-perdebatan seru mengenai baik tingkatan kederajatan, arti penting 33 derajat bagi seorang Freemason, dan hal-hal lain yang berhubungan dengan itu.
Disini saya tak akan membahas selengkap masalah ini seluas mungkin, hanya beberapa rites yang lumayan terkenal dan aneh tingkatan kederajatannya dalam dunia Freemasonry saja. Berikut ini tingkatan derajat pada:
